Ray Allen

The Greatness of WRA

The all-time leader in 3 pointers is a very uncommon and impressive record to break, especially for a 35-year-old NBA player. However, on 2/11/11 at 8:42pm, Walter Ray Allen broke the 3 point record while playing against the L.A Lakers. Through this milestone, Allen was able to surpass the great Reggie Miller who was ironically the commentator during this particular game.

Even though Allen is a veteran and some might say he is a little ancient in basketball years but when it comes to his skills and accuracy, age is really nothing but a number for this phenomenal shooter. His strength, work ethic, amazing foot work and love for the game have led him to many achievements on and off the court.  Prior to professional ball, he had an impressive high school record averaging 28.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 5.3 assist per game by his senior year. Following high school at Hillcrest, All-American-Allen played ball for the nearby Connecticut Huskies and achieved many honors there as well. As far as the NBA, Ray Allen has been a pro baller for 14 years playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, Seattle Supersonics and currently the Boston Celtics. His statistics for this season are out of this world with an average of 17.4 points per game on 51 percent shooting and 46 percent from the three point range.                                                                                                                                 Ray Allen has a never ending list of accomplishments aside from his point averages. He has been selected to the All-star game 11 times and received the Gold Medal at the Olympic Australian summer games in 2000.  Allen was named All-NBA twice thus far in his career and not only has a knack for basketball but for giving back to the community. His philanthropic ways has led to his selection as the spokesperson for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and his creation of the Ray of Hope. The Ray of Hope is a charity that was established in 1997 to help community and sports based programs so that young people have a safe and motivating chance to discover their potential.  Ray Allen has also appeared in two films and several commercials. It’s expected that Walter Ray Allen will be around for another few seasons which will only make the 3-point record that much harder to break. There is definitely much more to come from this athletic family man.
